BENEFITS FOR YOUR CHILDREN

When you are awarded Social Security disability benefits, your minor children will also be given benefits.

Dependent children may get benefits until they are 18.  If they are still in school, they can get benefits until their 19th birthday.

Typically, the adult's (primary) claim is processed and paid first, then the children's benefits are processed and paid shortly thereafter.

You should make Social Security aware that you have dependent children when filing your claim.  In some cases, the local Social Security office will ask you to submit birth certificates or other documents to prove the children's age.
